Cut Flowers

Why grow flowers? Two reasons.

  1. Living creatures love beauty. While the majority of work at Oak Slough Farm focuses on growing food we recognize the simple joy that flowers bring to people–and the countless pollinators we see everyday in the fields.

2. The flower industry is global. Conventional flowers that you are likely to find in the grocery store or in use by florists that do not prioritize local flowers are largely grown by people who work in hazardous conditions and see little of the profits. These flowers are then transported in long supply chains that rack up the cost–and environmental cost–of flowers and give profits to the middle men. Supporting local flowers means supporting a local economy and ensuring your money is not supporting exploitation elsewhere.
