About
Our Story
Nestled on a bend of the Sacramento River off Jelly Ferry’s Road in Red Bluff, CA, Oak Slough Farm is a new two-generation vegetable farm. Former regenerative livestock ranchers, wife and husband duo are joined by returning daughter and son (and the people who are currently enamored with them) to turn an abandoned walnut orchard into a commercial, organic mixed vegetable and flower operation. Thank you for supporting local food and families!

Our Pillars
Sustainability
We are certified USDA organic by Oregon Tilth. Our organic practice is two-fold: do no harm and do some good. On the do no harm side, we do not use pesticides, herbicides or any chemical fertilizers that have downstream negative effects on our ecosystem. We also try to do some good by working to improve our soil over time. We implement cover cropping and mulching methods and we plan to move towards no-till practices. Sustainability also means building a business that is good for its workers, the Earth, and the community that sustains it–this will take some figuring out and we aim to be transparent as we create and grow.

Food Security
Fresh, healthy produce is important for the dignity and fulfillment of human beings. When the whole community can enjoy fresh, healthy produce it creates a good place to live.
When we began planning this farm we reached out to food access organizations in Red Bluff and were soon connected with Tehama Together, an umbrella organization for the numerous programs throughout Tehama County working to insure people have food to eat every day of the week. We were overwhelmed to learn of the need in our community and encouraged by the efforts of so many to address the situation. We heard over and over again that more fresh produce would be appreciated by community members in need of food. In our first season, we aim to make regular deliveries to the Tehama County Gleaners, PATH, and the Red Bluff Salvation Army. Read more about this value and the programs at work on our Food Access page.
Community
This is a local farm. Our production is driven by the community and land we serve. We are excited by the inherent way in which food connects people to one another and the land. Through our newsletter and efforts in the community, we hope to invest you in the process of expanding a local economy together, built on sustainable relationships with the land and the principle of making a space for all parts of the community.
